Help to adapt Fight Club author, Chuck Palahniuk's novel Lullaby into a feature film! Be a part of making a movie that Chuck fans want to see!
Introduction
We’re Andy Mingo and Josh Leake, independent filmmakers from Portland, Oregon, and we are adapting Lullaby, the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, into a feature film!
Thanks to the support and the attention that Lullaby was able to achieve throughout our initial Kickstarter campaign—with over 5,200 backers!—we’ve been able to raise over $435,000 to make Lullaby into the feature film. But making a movie is an expensive endeavor—especially an independent movie—and we need your help!
We were fans of Chuck’s first, like many of you, getting hooked on his writing in the late 90’s. Chuck's books challenge everything about mainstream audiences, and that’s why we are dedicated to making Lullaby the movie that Chuck Palahniuk fans actually want to see!
Chuck and director Andy Mingo co-wrote the script, and this is Chuck’s first screenwriting experience. As co-writer of the Lullaby screenplay, Chuck has closely maintained his vision as to what this story should be. As an Executive Producer, he’ll help make sure that this film stays weird and challenging.
So What is Lullaby About?
Lullaby follows the life of Carl Streator—an over the hill reporter whose family mysteriously died years prior. After being assigned to investigate a rash of mysterious infant deaths, he discovers the killer of his own family—an ancient culling song published as a lullaby in a collection of children's poetry. Carl sets out to destroy existing copies throughout the world but is surprised to learn that the people he once trusted to stop the deaths may be involved in the heinous acts!
Our Plan
We are currently moving forward with preproduction with an eye of shooting the film in Portland, Oregon in 2017. We were able to raise a large chunk of our budget via our successful Kickstarer campaign in May of this year. With our Kickstarter rewards now starting to ship out to backers, we are pushing forward with fundraising through additional crowdfunding with our extended Indiegogo campaign.
We've done a VFX breakdown with talented artists that have worked on Lord of the Rings, King Kong, and X-Men, and have come up with an initial VFX pre-bid of $235,000, which is a significant portion of our current operating budget. This, coupled with the caliber of talent we've been able to connect with through the recent buzz generated by our efforts, illustrates how much more budget we will need to raise to secure the best actors in order to make this the film you want to it to be (for reference Fight Club was made for $60 mil). It is our goal to raise an addition $1 million dollars via IndieGogo.
Since the Kickstarter campaign ended, we are continuing to speak with some amazing cast and crew, including some of the biggest names in Hollywood. The problem with making movies, and doing so with world-class talent, is that not every actor is available at the drop of a hat, and sometimes you have to schedule shooting around their busy schedules.
It’s important that we bring Carl to life first before we cast the remaining actors. Casting is all about chemistry, and we want to make sure we find the perfect fit for his character, and for the rest of the Lullaby cast. It’s very important to all of us here at Team Lullaby that we make the best possible movie we can, and a movie you, the backer, are proud to have supported. We are continuing to work on pre-production, and plan to enter into production once the film has been cast.
What can I get with Indiegogo?
Through the Indiegogo Lullaby InDemand store, you will be able to get exclusive Indiegogo backer t-shirts, and art prints, previously unavailable to Kickstarter and BackerKit supporters. You will also be able to purchase tickets to screenings available only to backers. There's also autographed copies of Chuck’s novel Lullaby. You will be able to get some new rewards as well, like the Lullaby Swag Bag. Not to mention, all supporters via Indiegogo will get a free behind the scenes digital photo album and a link to download the official Lullaby soundtrack upon the film's release!
How does this help Lullaby?
We, as filmmakers, are dedicated to giving you the best film possible. In the end, a bigger budget will mean a higher quality production. Every additional dollar we make goes to better visual FXs, better shooting locations, world-class actors, and a kickass local crew! This is where you come in!
Distribution and Film Release
Depending on our festival invitations, we will premiere the film in or around 2018 and release it publicly thereafter. Through the Indiegogo Lullaby InDemand store, you'll be able to purchase tickets to backer only screenings and see the film before the general pubic!
Home video distribution usually happens within 18 months after a festival premiere. If we don't secure a distribution deal we are happy with, we will release the film ourselves using art house theaters through our relationship with the Art House Convergence—ensuring that this film will be seen by the public.
Invested Money Multiplied
We are applying for IOPIF—a film rebate and incentive program for Oregon filmmakers. We have the potential to receive a rebate of 10% on payroll and 20% on goods and services. We will reinvest the funds back into the production. For every dollar we earn, we have the potential of actually spending 120% in Oregon.
Our Key Team Members
We've pulled some talented friends together to help oversee the pre-production, creation and distribution of our rewards, and with your help, make Lullaby into a feature film.
The cool thing about our team is that they are all movie lovers. They have lots of experience working on independent films.
